Steve began his Coast Guard career as an enlisted man; became a commissioned officer and achieved the rank and position of Captain. Steve and his wife Teresa live in their home in Warrenton which they bought in 1991, retiring in the community where he commanded his first ship. They are happy to call the Astoria area and the Lower Columbia River Estuary their home.
Steve brings quiet calm competence to the Port; a consensus builder who also knows how to stick to his principles. He believes the port should be self-sustaining. “I think the first step is to find the private and public partnerships which can facilitate our financial standing and rebuild our neglected infrastructure."
Steve has a master's degree from the United States Naval War College. He is a volunteer Oregon Marine Board boating safety instructor. He is also President of the Lower Columbia River Chapter of the Military Officers of America.
